Abducting mothers or how the Hague Convention undermines child protection

The 1980 Hague Convention provides for the immediate return of a child taken from his or her country of origin by a parent regardless of context. A report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women warns how this international treaty can hinder foreign mothers’ attempts to escape violent situations and protect their children.
